The first blog, the one people say is always the hardest to get going and I always find the same when I start a new page of my sketch book. Although a little daunting, it is the start of something that could be great; and you know what, you will never know unless you go there.
That is how myself and an inspirational other came to be at the sharp end of this Ziptrek thing. He actually said to me ‘are you going back to architecture when you go back home’. I said not likely and we ended up on a (a little longer than expected) journey. The years since then have created even more learnings that I could have imagined and has built more opportunities that I could not have dreamed at the time.
For me working at Ziptrek Ecotours in the original location in Whistler, Canada was a magical time. I was in one of the coolest places that I had ever lived in, surrounded by people who loved life and also cared about looking after a place. One of my/our many aims here in Queenstown is to create that type of environment here for the team. A place that we can call home however temporary it may be, a town where our guys have fun and get paid for it, a town which creates lifelong links with people; a time to recollect with a smile and a place that we will always say I did something that counts.
